Salvador - Animo Alumni
Salvador Gallardo had a
tough start. He left Mexico when he was seven.
His mother worked hard to raise four children on
her own. After junior high school, Salvador
dropped out and went to work for an uncle, fixing
cars to help support his family. Substance abuse
led to his arrest and that led to treatment in
our Animo Spanish outpatient program. He finished
three years ago and he still comes almost every
day to the Latino NA/AA meeting at Free at Last
after work. Now Salvador is a role model for his
own brothers and other young Latinos.
Salvador knows education is the key to a better
job. So he goes to Project Read every weekday for
tutoring to improve his English skills, and he
takes a math class at Sequoia Adult Education.
Project Read director Joan Sykes-Miessi said "He
is one of the most consistent and hardworking
students they've ever had."
